Redox

Oxidation & Reduction

OIL RIG is a fundamental component in chemistry, in which oxidation is the loss of electrons and reduction is a gain in electrons. The oxidation number/state of a particular species within a compound can be determined and is useful in analysing the chemical reaction and see quantitatively which species is being oxidised/reduced.
